Courtney MacFawn-
Mr.True, as one of several coaches for the Varsity Lions Football Team this year,
tell me how you feel about their season so far. What do you like most about this
year's roster?
Coach True-
We have been very successful so far this season. The fact of the matter is that
we have such a young team, and the best thing is that we have 80% of the team
returning next year, and the fact of the success is that we have such a strong Bantam
program here.
Courtney MacFawn-
Now, I've been to all the games except for the Oromocto/LHHS game. Tell me about
that game. Even though it was pretty much a hurricane that weekend, why did our
boys lose the game?
Coach True-
Well, we had 6 turnovers, and that was mainly due to the weather. In the last 2 minutes
we played really well, and it was an extremely close game. We played really hard, but
the weather was definately a factor.
Courtney MacFawn-
The game against Hampton on October 4th was a hard fought battle that we won. How did
you prepare the boys for this game? Did you like the way that they were running more with
the ball than passing it?
Coach True-
Well, each opponent is individually planned for. We change things up every game. We are now
preparing for the FHS game (North/South Bowl). We go week by week for preparations. We
are very self motivated and we have also been very successful. We have a very physical team,
and we have a lot of strength coming from our offensive and defensive lines. We were very glad
that they were running with it more than passing it. It was a great game!
Courtney MacFawn-
How exactly do your practices run? Do the boys put in a lot of effort in their everyday practices?
Coach True-
They (the team) know whats expected every practice and yes they do put in enough effort.
Courtney MacFawn-
Just before the Hampton game, there was a Quarterback change. Why did you replace Nathan
Greenbank with Derek Broad as the regualar QB?
Coach True-
Postitional changes are made throughout the year to better the overall performance of the team.
The team is very selfless. We are all individual people, but we are all just one team. We are like a
family.
Courtney MacFawn-
Okay. This weekend is the North-South Bowl against FHS. What , if any, stratagies do you have
planned? Are you quite nervous for this game?
Coach True-
We are ready to deal with how FHS plays. I'm not at all nervous, but I would imagine that the players
are. This is a big game and there is a lot on the line. How we finish in this game determines who we will
be facing first in the playoffs.
Courtney MacFawn-
Alright, now to sum things up. Please discribe this year's team with one word. Why did you choose this
particular word?
Coach True-
Resellient. I chose this word because it really describes our team in a nutshell. No matter what , our
team always has a positive attitude, and they always work hard. And, again, we demonstrated it by
winning three games from behind. Thats what I call teamwork.
